Desserts Uncorked - Girl Scout Cookies All Grown Up!

On April 21 and April 29, 2009, Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore Girl Scout Council held their first annual Desserts Uncorked fundraisers at the City Opera House and the Gerald R. Ford Museum…and what a success it was!

Desserts Uncorked was a strolling dessert and wine reception in which local chefs created tantalizing treats out of - you guessed right – Girl Scout Cookies!  All of the desserts created for the event were delicious, but at the end of the evening in Traverse City, Chef Jeff Neidorfler of Morsels took home the “Taste-Testers’ Choice Award” with his Samoa and Trefoil creation:  “Short and Sweet”; while The Bluebird Restaurant’s Chef Shawn Botruff’s “Hawaiian Hula Girl Bars”  took home “People’s Choice”.   While in Grand Rapids, Chef Wesley Davis from Grand River Grocery took home "Taste Testers' Choice Award" with his "Girl Scouts Peanut Butter Cheesecake".  The real winners, however, were the guests in attendance who sampled different desserts – all scrumptious in their own unique way.

“We are so pleased with how the fundraiser turned out – and we cannot wait for the 2nd Annual Desserts Uncorked, in continuation of supporting girls in our communities”, said Karen Micklatcher, Chief Executive Officer.  “One thing is for sure, everyone left the evenings with their sweet-tooth satisfied!”

For nearly 100 years, Girl Scouts has served our community as the preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls.  Today, Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore proudly carries on the Girl Scouting legacy to 20,000 girls in the 30-counties of West, Northern, and Northwest Michigan.  In Girl Scouts, girls find a safe place to grow and share new experiences, learn to relate to others, develop values, and contribute to society.
