As an organization, Girl Scouts was integrated before the civil rights movement and international before the United Nations. We had a conservation program before Earth Day and hiked in the wilderness before women wore trousers. In that tradition, Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore Council is committed to being at the forefront of what girls - all girls-- want and need to be happy, healthy and successful citizens.

Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore is the high-capacity Council that was formed from the realignment process initiated by GSUSA in 2004. On August, 1, 2008, Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore Council was officially created from the merging together of Crooked Tree (based in Traverse City), Michigan Pine & Dunes (based in Muskegon), Michigan Trails (based in Grand Rapids), and a portion of Mitten Bay (with an office in Gaylord). With the combined membership and resources of these legacy Councils, Girl Scouting in Northwestern Michigan is stronger than ever!

Our Vision

Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore (GSMISTS) provides a girl-centered, fun-filled, quality leadership experience in partnership with mentoring adults that meets the needs of girls in a fast-changing world and ensures a lifelong connection with Girl Scouting. Partnered with community and infused with the principles of inclusion and diversity, GSMISTS is vital and strong, and is the premier organization for girls.

The Girl Scout Promise

On my honor I will try:

  • to serve God* and my country,
  • to help people at all times,
  • and to live by the Girl Scout Law.

* The word "God" can be interpreted in a number of ways, depending on one's spiritual beliefs.  When reciting the Girl Scout Promise, it is okay to replace the word "God" with whatever word your spiritual beliefs dictate.

The Girl Scout Law

I will do my best to be:

  • honest and fair,
  • friendly and helpful,
  • considerate and caring,
  • courageous and strong, and
  • responsible for what I say and do,

and to

  • respect myself and others,
  • respect authority,
  • use resources wisely,
  • make the world a better place, and
  • be a sister to every Girl Scout.
